Using your eyes is an obvious part of being a photographer, but any documentary photographer worth their salt will also be using their ears. It’s important to listen out for nuggets of conversations that give clues to moments that are about to unfold.
Shortly after Dave married Sarah at Leatherhead register office, their assembled guests filed out to congratulate the newlyweds. Dave’s ushers gathered and, after some hugs and nice words about the ceremony, the conversation suggested that the occasion ought to be marked with a team high-five (and why not!). A quick switch into burst-mode on my camera and I was able to capture the balance of expressions and hand positions.
